Join with Avaaz to ask world leaders to protect our planet

What’s happening?

Scientists are saying that we are in the midst of the next great extinction and humanity is taking a chainsaw to the tree of life. Life is being extinguished as fast as when the dinosaurs disappeared. By 2020, two-thirds of wild animals will be gone. Unless we stop this tragedy, the Earth’s delicate biodiversity could completely collapse, leaving our planet deathly silent and uninhabitable for humans.

Avaaz’s efforts

Avaaz are putting together an effort to put half of our planet under protection that has the backing of top scientists. This ambitious new plan would heal our home, and governments are about to meet to discuss the crisis.

Avaaz empowers millions of people from all walks of life to take action on pressing global, regional and national issues, from corruption and poverty to conflict and climate change. The Avaaz community campaigns in 15 languages, served by a core team on 6 continents and thousands of volunteers. They take action — signing petitions, funding media campaigns and direct actions, emailing, calling and lobbying governments, and organising “offline” protests and events — to ensure that the views and values of the world’s people inform the decisions that affect us all. Underlying Avaaz campaigns is a set of values—the conviction that we are all human beings first, and privileged with responsibilities to each other, to future generations, and to the planet.

Supporting Avaaz

Phoenix Rising For Children (PRFC) is an accredited out-of-home or foster care agency providing services in Sydney, including the greater metropolitan areas, Central Coast and parts of the Hunter region of NSW, Australia. PRFC was founded in 2001 to provide quality foster care to children and young people in NSW, including contemporary, quality, family-based foster care and effective and specialist support services to children and young people and their families. PRFC operates ethically, effectively and empathically with a view to achieving quality outcomes and a satisfying working environment, and as such we support organisations that encompass similar ideals.

Have you considered fostering a young one? PRFC undertakes regular planning and evaluation and has a focus on personal development and training. We are always interested in hearing from those passionate about making a meaningful difference for a child in foster care or a family requiring assistance. If you would like to become a foster carer and join our team providing effective and meaningful care to children and young people, please contact us!

We also provide family contact services, and these specialise in contact supervision for children in out of home care with their parents and other significant family members.

We can be reached at mail@phoenixrising.org.au

How you can help

Join with Avaaz and let your voice be heard to save our planet. If we bring a resounding chorus of human voices behind the 50% plan, we can push governments to stop the next mass extinction.

Send your message today;

“We global citizens are deeply concerned by scientists warning that ecosystems critical to sustaining life on Earth could collapse in our lifetimes. We call on you to meet existing targets to protect biodiversity, forge a new agreement so that at least 50% of our lands and oceans are protected and restored, and ensure our planet is completely sustainably managed. This must take into consideration the needs of human development and have the active support of indigenous peoples. This long-term goal for nature can restore harmony with our home.”
