You can help out during the crisis in Syria

What’s happening?

The crisis in Syria has raged for over four years. The unrest began within the context of Arab Spring protests, with nationwide protests against President Bashar al-Assad’s government, whose forces responded with violent crackdowns. The conflict gradually morphed from prominent protests to an armed rebellion after months of military sieges.

During this time, more than 200,000 people have been killed. Over 11 million people have fled their homes and over 4 million refugees have fled to neighbouring countries including Jordan and Lebanon. Three-quarters of these refugees are women and children.

Oxfam’s efforts

This is a crisis of staggering proportions, one that requires a massive international humanitarian response. Oxfam has assisted more than 1.3 million people across Syria, Jordan and Lebanon, but the crisis continues to escalate. The situation continues to go from bad to worse with over 12 million people affected by the Syrian crisis and in need of humanitarian aid. Oxfam are collecting donations to help during this time and your small donation can go a long way to help Oxfam provide access to food, water and sanitation.

$129 can provide hygiene kits to 3 Syrian families in Lebanon, minimising the risk of hygiene related illness.

$240 can give 50 people living in tented settlements in Jordan access to showers.

$567 could give a blanket, mattress and pillow to 7 households of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, allowing them to have a decent night’s sleep.
