Help stop cuts to the emergency aid fund

It’s Christmas

Christmas is a time for giving. It’s a time to remember those less fortunate than ourselves.

In Australia, we’re lucky to be one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Yet, we give relatively little to support those less fortunate in other countries.

Aid works. Helping to halve child deaths in the past twenty years is just one example of this. Our government must not forget the power of Australia’s aid and the many thousands of people it works for, this festive season.

We understand that there could be plans to make further cuts to the already slashed aid budget in the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook, due to be released in a couple of weeks. This is unacceptable. Australia’s aid budget is already far behind that of many other countries with wealth comparative to ours.

We know that aid works. From the response to the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, to Typhoon Haiyan just last year, we have seen the transformative nature of aid in action.

We know that poverty and inequality can be overcome. Australians are generous people and we can play a role in supporting people to live the lives they want and fulfil their potential.

Supporting Oxfam

Phoenix Rising For Children (PRFC) is an accredited out-of-home or foster care provider based in the Sydney greater metropolitan area and Hunter Central Coast of N.S.W, Australia. PRFC was founded in 2001 to provide quality foster care to children and young people in N.S.W, including contemporary, quality, family-based foster care and effective and specialist support services to children and young people and their families. PRFC operates ethically, effectively and empathically with a view to achieving quality outcomes and a satisfying working environment, and as such we support organisations that encompass similar ideals.

Have you considered fostering a young one? PRFC undertakes regular planning and evaluation and has a focus on personal development and training. We are always interested in hearing from those passionate about making a meaningful difference for a child in foster care or a family requiring assistance. If you would like to become a foster carer and join our team providing effective and meaningful care to children and young people, please contact us!

We also provide family contact services, and these specialize in contact supervision for children in out of home care with their parents and other significant family members.

How you can help

Tens of thousands of Australians take a range of actions in support of our campaign work each year. By taking action now, you will be helping to raise the voice of disadvantaged communities around the world. Join us as we work towards food security, equality in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and to Make Poverty History – thank you.

With Oxfam, we can call on the government not to be mean-spirited this Christmas. Oxfam will send your card on to Treasurer Joe Hockey and Finance Minister Mathias Cormann.
